My Itinery

We will be in Singapore for 1 week but half of that is taken up with a sporting competition.

I have been before but the other 2 lots in my group have not.

We are on a budget and so these are my thoughts for cheap shopping and sightseeing.

We are staying near Bugis street on waterloo st.

So we browse bugis street pago junction and markets. I believe there is cheap eats there also.

We walk over to little india and browse Little India And Mustafa centre and Toopalee fashions 88 serengoon rd Little India

Going into side streets for costume jewellery, spices, insence etc.

Cheap eats there too?

Then we also want to go to fountain of wealth at suntec marina....is that walking distance from Waterloo street?

We also want to go to raffles hotel long bar and the big wheel, is that walking distance?I believe they are next to each other?

Also want to take them on a bum boat ride.

Then Chinatown....Pearls centre Outram park centre (nearby great food court)and then up main road (EU TONG SEN street/ New bridge road) to Peoples park complex/ Yue Hwa chinese products .

Then across into Sago st, Smith st, Pagoda st and Chinatown complex. Pagoda street has best souvenirs.

Can we get to all these places on foot?

Then I believe for one lady who wants to go to Changi prison museum.....she gets a bus number 2 from victoria st central bugis st area.

The sporting group may be going to Night safari.

They are not into Orchid road and i have done it.

Suggestions and opinions welcome but my main queries are if we can get to the above places mentioned by foot?.

My Itinery

Hi PerthLovetoTravel,

This map will help you plan your journey:

http://www.ducktours.com.sg/pdf/route_map.pdf

It is actually the bus route from the Hippo Bus Tour. And you could make reference to it linking up the Bugis, Little India and the Chinatown.

It%26#39;s all walkable. However, you must be prepared to walk a pretty long journey under the hot sun in the afternoon. So most probably you would be perspiring half the time. Remember to wear airy clothes... t-shirts and shorts or short skirts. And wear comfortable shoes.

For the lady who wants to visit the Changi Prison museum, she has to note that the bus journey is quite long if she takes it from Bugis. A faster way would be to take the Mrt from Bugis, alight at Tampines. And then take SBS Transit bus 29 from Tampines MRT Station (EW2). If in doubt, ask the Control Station officer at the Tampines Mrt Station. They always offer good advice. =)

But if she doesnt mind the long bus journey, by all means take bus number 2.

There are cheap food all around Sg... just visit the hawker centres or the food courts. I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll be spoilt for choice.

Cheers,

Suying

Hi Suying

how long would the bus travel take to Changi compared to the mrt and then bus?

Many thanks.

That%26#39;s a great map and i have printed it.

Is it a free bus or do you pay?

Hello,

That%26#39;s the Hippo Bus Tour and it%26#39;s not Free. But I always find their plan pretty good. So you could follow it and be able to cover quite a lot of places.

As for the bus from Bugis to Changi, I havent taken it before but I suppose it will be at least an hour ride... and there will be lots of stops in between. If one is not used to long bus ride, it can get quite uncomfortable.

As for the Mrt from Bugis to Tampines will be ard 25mins. And then a bus from Tampines to Changi will be ard 15mins. However, I have yet to factor in the waiting time for the bus 29.

What you need to find out now is how long exactly it takes for the bus to travel from Bugis to Changi.

Cheers,

Suying

yes thats what i was thinking....by the time you have waited for connections, it will probably take the same time as the bus.

Now when you say follow the hippo bus route, how would i do that , do you mean walking? Or is there another bus that takes that route?

I meant walking for you as you wanted to walk, just that this map will give you an idea how you could link up these main areas of interest instead of you walking all around. Or if you are willing to spend a bit, you could just join the hippo bus tour at S$33 per pax for their bus pass. =)

Hummm... i%26#39;m not sure if the public buses follow the same routes. And I dont think that there are other tour buses following the same.

The problem with the bus is that I have no idea if it is just an hour ride. I ever tried taking a bus from Chinatown to Tampines... and that took me a good 90minutes ride. And I got a little groggy at the end of the journey coz the bus was stopping and moving stopping and moving. And if there is a traffic jam, it%26#39;ll get worse. The MRT is definitely a safer bet for comfort wise.
