What to do/see in two weeks
wow, im glad you%26#39;re gonna spend two weeks here (: well for starters, you can try a good variety of food! there was an earlier thread on famous hawker food in singapore. do refer to that.
set aside a couple of days to visit the cultural sites - little india, chinatown. take your time to explore the streets.
other places of interest include the night safari, zoo, birdpark, botanical gardens. our night safari is particularly raved (:
travel to some of the nearby islands - sentosa (to enjoy a chilled beer by the beach) and pulau ubin. ubin retains the old flavour of undeveloped singapore. there is no electricity on the island, they use generators. there are swamps, quarries, treks. if you%26#39;re adventurous, go biking. if not, take a leisurely stroll in the wilderness (: it can be accessed via a boat ride from changi.
see how the locals live - travel to neighbourhood estates like ang mo kio, toa payoh or bedok. these are easily accessed by the mrt.
and finally shopping! how can we miss that out =p orchard road, city hall, bugis, marina square, suntec city.. loads of places to shop!
if you%26#39;ll like to understand more about the local culture, why not try couchsurfing? i%26#39;m not advertising, it%26#39;s just something i came across. lots of us are happy to meet up for a coffee or drink to tell you more about our sunny little island (:
cheers!
Singapore (SG) is quite small and 14 days is more than enough to tour the ';must-sees'; of the city-state. How to fill up 14 days? I suggest you go visit Malaysia, it%26#39;s very near SG and you can travel there even by land. :)
Two weeks is long enough to get a feel for Singapore, but not long enough to do everything there is to do, not if you want to do things properly.
Take your time, enjoy, feel the atmosphere of the place, don%26#39;t just fly in, whizz about, look at everything and see nothing, as so many do.
Enjoy your first trip, it%26#39;s a very exciting place, you never know it may be the beginning of a love affair with a beautiful country, and a beautiful people. Alan.
I could fill two weeks quite easily and still want more to see. it will give you the opportunity to take a decent look at what is in the state. What to recommend really needs to have some idea of what you like to do...
As a start point, go to the Singapore Tourist Board website at www.visitsingapore.com and look in the what to see section to get a feel for the things that are present. Then if you say what you want to see people can add ideas, or give you an idea of how long it takes to go round the particular places to get you an idea as to how long you can fill with your preferences.
Wow, two weeks in Singapore, I%26#39;m jealous. It%26#39;s not cheap though so get saving. I%26#39;ve been a few times and these are my favourites (discovering something new each time I go):
The zoo - loved this during the day but thought the night safari was a bit of a rip off
Changi - try one of the half day tours to the museum. Very moving and done really well. We stopped off in a typical Singaporean residential area on the way back which was really interesting.
Arab Quarter - beautiful mosque and a lovely couple of streets around it.
Bugis Street and surrounding on a Sunday - really nice buzz. More for the atmosphere than the shopping.
Orchard Road - if you want to do some serious shopping this is mall after mall.
Raffles - just for the Singapore Sling, surely you can%26#39;t go and not do that!
Sentosa - really nice day. I wasn%26#39;t sure that I would like it but I loved it. Take some swimsuits and play on the beach. Lots of other stuff to see.
Chinatown - lots of cool stalls and shops, big temple. Try the Chinatown Heritage Museum, it looks nothing from outside but is excellant inside and well worth the visit.
Loads of nice places to eat. One of my favourites is Chjimes where there are lots of different bars and restaurants. For maximum effect go at night via the church entrance - when it is lit up it looks beautiful.
Thanks

Unfortunately it is not always sunny. The weather in Singapore is always hot and you will get some sunshine but it is often overcast and there is a lot of rain so don%26#39;t expect a Mediterranean climate.
The previous poster is not quite right: Nov/Dec are rainy months, with thunderstorms on most days. However, come Jan to Oct, most days are sunny but being an equatorial country, it IS very hot and humid. Temperatures don%26#39;t vary much, even year-end (min 24C; max 30C). So wear lots of sunscreen and keep hydrated.
I think I am correct in saying that you may see some sunshinemost days but the statistics show that rainfall is pretty high all year round.
bbc.co.uk/weather/…
Simple mm of rain doesnt really tell you the whole story. My experience is people in the UK think of lots of rain in terms of time lost to rain and while the mm that fall in Singapore is high.
The rain is tropical and so its generally hard and fast, so short cloudbursts rather than overcast drizzly days like we get here in the UK - that means that despite high mm of precipitation you don%26#39;t lose anything like as much time if it rains.
