Accommodation

Dear All,

If money was no object where would you stay in Singapore for 14 nights. Would it be the Raffles or something newer???

Thanks

Trish

Have a look at The Fullerton - not the most expensive, but a great building (the ex post office) and fantastic location right on the river.

Accommodation

I%26#39;m a great fan of boutique/family run or smaller hotels by-and-large, where it seems you are a person in your own right, and NOT JUST another guest. That%26#39;s not to say the %26#39;%26#39;Top Hotels%26#39;%26#39; don%26#39;t do a professional job, many do, though sadly some don%26#39;t.

Regardless how much, or little, money it costs, value for money is always my priority. A bacon buttie for $2.00 for example, could be the finest thing in the world to eat, if that%26#39;s what you fancy, but the %26#39;%26#39;Equinox%26#39;%26#39; restaurant on the top of the Stamford Hotel, @ $500.00, a throw, ain%26#39;t bad either. Alan.

14 nights at the Raffles ? I am not sure what type of atmosphere u like but Raffles is a bit stuffy. Dont get me wrong, I am not saying it is bad, just that I prefer a more relaxed ambience. There are dress codes in restaurants and certain areas.

When on vacation, I really like a place where u will feel at home esp. a 2 weeks trip. What is important is the service.

For luxury, I would opt for St. Regis or 4 Seasons or Valley Wing of the Shang. A nice boutique would be Naumi and if not, go for something like Pan Pacific Suites/apartments.

Good Luck and enjoy

Thanks for the responses folks. I%26#39;m not sure that the %26#39;vibe%26#39; of the raffles would suit us as we prefer a little less formality.

I shall do some more homework but am leaning towards the valley wing at the shangri-la. I like the idea of having access to the lounge in the afternoon to just kick back after a day of sightseeing.

Thanks again for the help.

Hi Trish,

Though I second the suggestion of the Fullerton for the very fact that it used to be the HQ of our Postal Service (The GPO, or General Post Office), converted now into an exquisite luxury hotel and for the view that it commands across Marina Bay, how about a serviced apartment...:

The Ascott

It is a few streets down from the Fullerton in the heart of Singapore%26#39;s CBD, so its akin to staying in a serviced apartment in Wynyard. For obvious reasons it would be dead at night, except for Lau Pa Sat (an old hawker centre that had a facelift and now runs 24 hours) yet another few streets down.

Happy travels.

PS FYI The Ascott is part of the Capitaland Group, so if you stay there you%26#39;d be giving the Guv your business. :)
