Night Safari.

Hello,

We are a family of 4 (children 10 and 11) arriving in Singapore and staying at Swissotel merchant Court from 16th (arrive 19.50) until 18th (depart midnight)

I am wondering if it would be leaving everything too tight if we did the night safari on 18th - does anyone know what is check in times for international flights at the airport?

I am cautious about punctuality especially when flying - how much time would we get to spend on the night safari if we did this? How far is it to the airport?

One reason for doing this is as we will need to check out of the hotel much earlier but then if we do go to the night safari will there be anywhere to leave our rather large luggage?

Many thanks in anticipation.

For an international flight I have never seen the ticket say less that be present 2 hours before takeoff. More these days are beginning to suggest 3hrs which is the minimum I%26#39;d personally feel remotely comfortable leaving it. That 3hr point means 9pm at the airport - and given the London Singapore route is a busy one I always expect to want to lean on the cautious side. I always am on that route and get to the airport 3-4hours in advance so as not to be rushed, not to get caught in a queue etc (Changi is an airport where I can happily fill several hours wait)

Travel time from the Night Safari to the Airport should be about 30mins on a clear road I think. The Night Safari opens at 7.30. That gives you at most an hour at the Night Safari, and doesnt deal with where you keep the luggage or collecting it at the airport. One hour simply isn%26#39;t worth it in my opinion for the Night Safari as to get the best out of the place you simply have to be able to take the time to wait for the animals to appear after some group rumbles past or simply to see them in the dark. Impatience or being rushed wrecks the experience (in my experience).

The luggage options are a) leave them in the luggage room at the hotel - which means going to the airport via the hotel and more time lost, b) carry them at the safari (impossible) or c) going to the airport earlier on and depositing them in left luggage. I don%26#39;t remember ever seeing lockers for luggage of that size at the Night Safari.

With take off on your mind, and being a punctual person, no way would you enjoy the night safari, or indeed see enough of it to make it worthwhile, and catch your plane, imho. Better to go on the 17th when you can fully relax, doing you, your children and the night safari justice. Good luck and enjoy. Alan.

agreed with ddiggs, better to do the night safari on 17th as you need at least 3 hours or more at there.....

The ticket is not cheap (in my own opinion) and you really need to do the tram ride(not included in the entrance fee) as walking thru the park on foot might not able to cover all the exhibts fully.

The last time I was there, I reached there at about 7pm and did not leave till almost midnight!!

BTW, you should see this www.nightsafari.com.sg/visitor/halfday.htm

and this www.nightsafari.com.sg/visitor/rates.htm

Have fun there!

Thanks folks for all the valuable and honest opinions - glad to see I%26#39;m not the only person who errs on the side of caution flights-wise!

Decision made - night safari on 17th it is. May well book this end.

Amanda

Book what? The Night Safari...I%26#39;d just go there and buy the tickets, not use any tour company to do that, myself....it is easy enough to taxi there and grab a ticket on site and you are not beholden to anyone else%26#39;s timekeeping.
