Hello and happy new year to you all. On the 31st january i travel to singapore for four days on my way to new zealand and im looking foward to it so much i might wet myself. Anyway i am staying at the orchard hotel on orchard road and want to know how much it will be to get a taxi to and from the airport and what scams should i look out for ? Thanks for your time. Also a single guy in singapore am i pretty safe going out by myself?
Singapore taxis
About $20-$25 %26#39;%26#39;Sing%26#39;%26#39; from the airport to Orchard Rd. The vast number of Taxi drivers in Singapore are honest. NEVER get in a %26#39;%26#39;taxi%26#39;%26#39; that touts for your business, or one promising you the cheapest ride, good cabbies in Singapore don%26#39;t do that. All cabs should have a visible meter, if it doesn%26#39;t get out, take the vehicle number and report them to the police.
You are as safe as houses in Singapore, just be sensible, remember, if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably isn%26#39;t. Enjoy your stay. Alan
Singapore taxis
THank you for your help and i promise you i will try my hardest to enjoy my five week holiday. All the best.
Single guys in Singapore have no problems :) Very safe to go out by yourself! You%26#39;ll have a great time.
Also, if you want to catch the train (called the MRT) from the airport instead of a taxi, that is possible too. It takes about 40min to get to orchard, with cost of ~$1.70 (if you buy an ezilink card) or ~$3 if you just by a single ticket.
I am arriving at 6am so will the mrt be running at that time? I take it the bars and clubs along orchard road are decent? And do you know of any places that have live bands? Thanks for your reply.
We took a taxi 15/12/08. Signs in the airport tell you a taxi to town will cost $20-25. Ours to Raffels cost $20. We found the driver very good.I felt very safe walking around at 4am on my own. Why 4am? jet lag. To my surpise the bars were still open.
Hi Mossymoon,
Taxis from the Airport to Orchard Hotel would cost about $20-$25 on the meter. Note that a $3 Airport surcharge is applicable. Since you are arriving around 6am, try to board the taxi after 6am as there is 50% surcharge on the meter during 12-6am.
Taxi from the hotel to airport costs around the same price, adding surcharges of course like peak hour travel etc.
You could alternatively take the MRT to your hotel. From Airport to Tanah Merah Station (3 stops), transfer to a West Bound Train heading to City Hall Station (9 stops), transfer to North Bound Train to Orchard Station (3 stops) This should not cost more than $5, moreover train is mostly empty at that time.
From the station it is about 10mins slow walk to your hotel.
It is pretty safe going anywhere in Singapore, but just keep your wits about you.
Thank you i do appreciate all of your advice. And ';cameltoe'; a cracking name made me chuckle. So walking around at 4 am is pretty safe , does anybody know of any places with live bands? I do not mean thrash metal stuff i mean somewhere along orchard road maybe?
Live band...could try Bar None(cover charge applies) at Marriott Hotel (next to Tangs Shopping centre) Cool club with live band that plays all-time fav,classics,pop-rock,top 40s etc.(it also has a another club called ';The Living Room';-no cover charge that opens till 6am!!)
';The Sanctuary'; at IndoChine Wisma Atria'; (next to Orchard MRT Sataion, along Orchard Road). It has alfresco area with live band in the night and a indoor restaurant (Nude Restaurant) if the heats of Singapore bothers you.
Hope you%26#39;ll enjoy your short trip here :)
NUDE ??? As in i have to take off all my clothes and jig around tackle out??? Sounds a bit livley. I am coming form England and will look a tad white so a bit apprehensive about that but thank you for your advice i look foward to seeing these places. And if your in the nude place first few days of febuary and see a brilliant white english guy jumping around thats me come and say hello and i will buy you a drink.
Haha, wishful thinking....That’s the name of the restaurant only not exactly as in “NUDE”...
Don’t ask me why they called it that name…hmmmm, suggestive isn’t it?? :)
