So confused...

I am planning to depart from NYC to SIN in august. I don%26#39;t know where to start planning. What are some of the airlines I should be looking into and how many days do you need in Singapore? I was also going to leave from Singapore to Bangkok and then maybe to Bali. Would really appreciate if someone could let me know if I should have a travel agent book the trip, or book this myself online..

So confused...

Hello,

I always think planning the trip is half the fun - I make all arrangements myself online - its pretty easy and I feel you get the best deals by comparing hotel and airline websites yourself. Singapore is an airline hub so most airlines fly in and out - including many discount asian airlines. I usually fly Singapore Airlines as they have had the best price and their onboard service is good.

3-4 days in Singapore might be a good start. That will give you time to visit a few tourist attractions and go over to Sentosa Island. Make sure you work out your budget beforehand and go from there. Check out the Singapore Tourist Board website to help with planning (what to see, do and eat in Singapore, as well as local transport information)- www.visitsingapore.com/

A few more websites for you to browse and know what are on offer in Singapore:

http://www.sentosa.com.sg sentosa island resort

http://www.zoo.com.sg zoo, night safari, bird park

http://www.ducktours.com.sg city and river tours, heritage tours

These should help you get started. Singapore airlines for me, no question about it, not just because I am Singaporean, but because of the value it offers.

If you are planning side trips to Bali or Bangkok, have a look at Jetstar Asia and Tiger Airways. Or if you prefer travel agents, look at Misa Travel or Chan Brothers for packages priced from Singapore.

I agree with Denise, planning and putting everything together is a huge part of the holiday, and is very rewarding.

Research/homework though is VITAL, take your time, prioritise what you want/need within a budget and leave no stone unturned. Pen and paper essential, make loads of notes, then start from the beginning knocking out those that you decide are not for you.

If it%26#39;s any help I start with the hotel, put an hotel deal in principle together in your own mind, reads as many reviews as you can find, %26#39;%26#39;Trip Advisor%26#39;%26#39; is a good barometer of what%26#39;s what, but at the end of the day the decision%26#39;s yours. Check out all the airline. Once happy with all you%26#39;ve done, book it, and go. Alan

Here%26#39;s a start, happy hunting.
