2A/1C would like advice on which hotel to stay at in April

Hi,

We are coming to Singapore for 4 days on April to do the toruisty thing.

I%26#39;m confused about hotels though; we want to be fairly central; having our 5 yr old daughter we need

to be within walking distance of an MRT station.

We would like a fairly classy hotel and our budget it roughl $250 AUD per night inclusive of breakfast.

Does anyone know of any good hotels they could recommend?

Thanks in advance,

Kitty

InterContinental would be ideal due to location and quality of hotel.

Good Luck

Hi,

Maybe the InterContinental within Parco Bugis Junction Shopping Complex - great location near Bugis MRT station. Or, Royal Plaza on Scotts Hotel a few mins walk from Orchard Road and MRT.

Thanks for your feedback guys, that looks good!

How does it compare to Pan Pacific or Conrad (they have 50% at the time we travel..)

We%26#39;d like a nice pool area that isnt overpriced for food/drinks etc.. but I guess all those hotels will be expensive for that kind of thing..??

Thanks again, Kitty

Swissotel Merchant Court is also good for a family. We stayed there with our daughter on a couple of occasions but quite a while ago now, as they were prepared to put in a rollaway bed for her. Also the pool area was perfect for kids, it used to have a pool slide, not sure if it%26#39;s still there, and the gardens are beautiful, plus there was a little pool bar. I believe the pool area at the Intercontinental is a bit boring and not so fun for kids.

Hi, We have stayed at the Swissotel Merchant Court with our young kids and they still talk about it (especially the pool areas and the breakfasts were fantastic). Having said that we are going back to Singapore in June and did get a price for the SMC and it was really expensive so I think the prices might have escalated somewhat since our first stay. We have also stayed at the Holiday Inn Park view which is great for kids as they don%26#39;t charge extra for them and they have rooms with two double beds. The kids also liked this pool area and we liked the location better than SMC just for the convenience of being in Orchard Road for shopping at nighttime (while hubby babysat!).

P.P and Conrad are about in the same neighborhood and Conrad has great service. PP is not bad either but to get to the MRT, it is a bit of a walk for a 5 yr old. But if u have a good deal with these hotels, it is worth considering coz of quality of hotel and all the $ u saved can be spent on cab fares. Suntec and Marina Mall is right at your door step.

Royal Plaza on Scotts is nice but room a bit small for a family.

Merititus Mandarin wont be a bad choice if u cant get IC.

Thanks everyone for your comments; I love this site!

So helpful in planning holidays;... I%26#39;ll check out the Swiss Merchant too!

Now... anyone know the best site to book through to get the best deals?

Thanks so much again,.. Kitty

Kitty,

You could try wotif.com which I have used in the past and got good deals. But good idea to compare a couple of sites before you jump in. Have also used hotelclub.com. There is asiarooms.com as well which I have not used.

But, as you are not going until April, it might be wise to hold for a bit as the prices might come down, seeing as the number of visitors to Singapore have dropped off and the hotels could be forced to drop their ridiculous prices. Just a suggestion.

Hi Zeehan...

Yes.. I think you may be right; that thought did cross my mind so I%26#39;m glad to hear you confirm it.

I guess theres no real rush to book straight away as there seems to be a few choices that would suit us.

Thanks again,

Kitty

Hi Kitty,

We have just come back from staying at the InterContinetal. We booked direct on the website and they did have some specials at the time.

They put a rollaway bed in our room for our daughter but when booking we had to pay an extra amount ($30 from memory) for the ';extra adult'; whilst our daughter was at no charge.

It was strange booking method but at the time I just paid it as I was so sick of trying to find somewhere that would accomodate 3 in a room.

We stayed in a shophouse room (236) which was really large with space enough in the entry area to position the rollaway for some privacy for her.

The pool was smaller than others but lovely and had nice loungers. Didn%26#39;t try any pool side food though.

Being right in Bugis Junction shopping complex is fantastic as there is the Food Junction foodcourt on the 3rd level and a supermarket and food outlets in the basement. MRT access is also in the basement and the hotel is only 2 blocks from Raffles or City Hall area.

Really convenient position - we have stayed with blocks of Bugis Junction each trip.

If you get the InterContinetal at a good price I would not hesitate. Staff always greeting you with smiles, lemongrass in the oil burners at each lift foyer and lovely downstairs lounge area.

good luck
