We are family of 2 adults, 1 12 year old and 1 10 year old. We are doing a pre %26amp; post nights in Singapore and was wondering if the rooms at Changi Village or Grand Mercure is big enough to accommodate us? Both nights requires less than 13 hours so we don%26#39;t really want to get an extra room. Has anyone or any family of our size stayed at these hotels before and could share their experience. It%26#39;s just a bed that we need really....How flexible are singapore hotels with their policy?????
Rooms at Changi Village or Grand Mercure
Hotels in singapore usually allow 1 child ( age 12 and below) with sharing parents per room.
Perhaps you can email the hotels in stating for one room accommodation for 2 adults and 2 kids.
Hotel Grand Mercure is having promotion for :
Best Unrestricted Rate
SGD 235
Superior (Room Only)
Accommodation and breakfast are free for 1 child under 12 years sharing parents room.
Rooms at Changi Village or Grand Mercure
Stay in Mercure last June. No problem with space in twin room. but you kids are quite old so not sure twin bed can sleep all of you. I had twin bed and my wife slept with my 7 yr while the other another 2 child (15 %26amp; 9) on the other bed. I won%26#39;t say very spacious on the bed, bus just enough to sleep 2 persons. Room wise, its okay to me.
You may want to sleep on the floor, enought space for all. Just buy a yoga mat or something like that to save up on room cost. Don%26#39;t worry about how many people can live in the room. They don%26#39;t usually bother to check unless guests complain about your kids. Besides, you are also entitle to your guests coming to visit you, so no worry about people getting in and out of the hotel. I had 3 kids for my last stay (just for fun).
No problem of getting things you need at Mercure as it is just opposite a shopping mall, Parkway Parade, walk across an overhead bridge takes you 5 min to reach the mall. There are also local hawker centre besides the mall and surrounding your hotel. So its never a problem getting around. There is even a shuttle service to the airport (not sure must pay), Do write to them as I was told, they do pick up guests from airport to. Check with the hotel.
As for Changi, I can%26#39;t tell much, but there are eateries, hawker centre around the hotel and few shops around, a 7-11 24hrs stalls. In the evening, pubs and some nice open restaurants along the coast for a meal with nice environment setting.
I would not recommend staying at Changi as it is in a sleepy part of Singapore; very little to see and do. And it is quite a journey from the airport as the taxi would need to do a big loop around the airport perimeter.
You would have more things to see and do in the city proper, and the taxi ride in would not cost much more then to Changi.
We have 16 hours both ways and I%26#39;ve booked a room in town for one and Changi Village for the other. If you%26#39;re arriving after midnight taxis put on a % surcharge. We%26#39;re doing the hop on hop off bus tour when we stay in town and will just visit the village and wander along the beach and sit by the pool when at Changi Village. Also, there%26#39;s a shuttle boat to a small island, Pulau Udin (30 mins trip) that leaves from Changi Village. You can hire bikes to tour the island. I would think your 10 and 12 year olds might enjoy that (if there%26#39;s no money for spending in the shops!)
Another tip, check out stopover hotels offered by your airline. We%26#39;re flying Tiger and I did a good search and their rates couldn%26#39;t be beaten - even on Wotif.
Thank you all for sharing. Reading from forum reviews and your experiences, I think I will opt for Mercure as Changi does not seem to have a good review. Mercure seems to be good for shopping and eating therapy too!!! Can%26#39;t wait - you guys rocks!!!
