hotel club room??

We are going to spend 2 weeks in Singapore this spring and now we have huge difficulties on making up our minds about the hotel.

The Golden Landmark is offering their club room for a bit under 3000 S$, the club room would include breakfasts and cocktails, wine, snacks etc every night at the Lounge, internet connection etc etc.

A normal room at the same hotel is 2000 S$ for room only. Both prices include taxes and all.

Since we are spending 2 weeks, I would prefer a hotel that has a pool and a free internet connection.

Now, how profitable is that club room taken the price of food and drinks in Singapore? I can do without a fancy hotel room so no need to think about that. A breakfast at the hotel every morning makes things easier I guess? If the two of us are to eat breakfast every morning somewhere else and drink some wine and cocktails at some bar every evening and also pay for the internet at the hotel, will that cost more than 1000 S$?

Sorry, long and complicated msg...

hotel club room??

S$1000 for 2 weeks for all food and alcohol ? That will depend on what type of places u have in mind for food. If u r the adventurous type, local food is cheap and tasty and plenty of local pub/bars offer happy hour specials.

If u limit urself to only the hotel%26#39;s club lounge for food and drinks, u will be missing a bit part of SIN. And, the club lounge provides the same food daily (maybe a few items will change but there is always some basics that never changes) so to eat similar food for 2 weeks might lose its appeal after the 5th day.

I normally dont recommend club rooms for those who enjoy what SIN has to offer but if u plan to spend quite a bit of time in the hotel and use its facilities rather than exploring the island, then club lounge access should be considered.

Good Luck

hotel club room??

Hi,

We have stayed at the GoldenLandmark and in Jan 08 we were offerred the upgrade to club but declined but with hindsight we wished we had as we spent a lot by the pool for drinks and snacks.

Mind you it wasn%26#39;t going to be at the high rate you quote.

Having just had club facilities in Malaysia and not at our Singapore hotel during this January I would offer the following:

S$1000 for 2 weeks is a lot to pay

breakfast can be had near the the GLM very cheaply, ie the food court across the road a Raffles Hospital or the Coffee Bean or a block away at Bugis Junction - Starbucks or McDonalds or Toast Box etc

If you plan to eat at hawker centres and have a beer with you food (wine not available there) then you will have a lot of change from your S$1000. We would spend no more than S$30 for dinner for 3 of us

If you are back at the hotel during the day and by the pool paying for drinks you need to consider whether you would drop by the lounge instead for a coffee or soft drink

We found in Malaysia that the club facilities were very good and worthwhile for us but wanting to make the most of them in the evening did ';lock us in'; to being back at the hotel each evening. Also were not paying anywhere near what the GLM is quoting for the extra club facilities.

Hope our experience helps.

Hello,

I spent 5 nights in a Club Room at the Golden Landmark Hotel in early 2007. I got an extremely good price (much less than you appear to have been quoted). Have you checked the price of these rooms on various websites?

I liked how quiet the Club floor was - it was at the top of the hotel, the rooms were nicely decorated, but not anything luxurious. Bathroom a bit small - nothing fancy. The Breakfast Room on that floor was small, but good. Breakfast was a small buffet selection laid out on a bench/shelf. There were only about 10 small tables in the room. One staff member on duty. 2 computers for Club Room guests. I needed the Internet frequently so it was very convenient and included in my hotel deal. There was supposed to be a special check-in desk at reception for executive club room guests, but every time I stood there I was ignored by reception staff. I needed peace and quiet, so was pleased not to be in the lobby coffee shop for breakfast - it always looked crowded and noisy. I did have some fruit, biscuits and coffee during the day a couple of times. I didn%26#39;t go for he 6pm canapes and drinks.

Staff seemed a bit forceful about exact timings (I tried getting a cold soft drink late afternoon and was told no - that is for 6pm onwards. I didn%26#39;t bother after that. I was supposed to get a late 4pm check-out in my club room deal. This didn%26#39;t happen and I had to pack up in a hurry and leave by 2pm - thats as late as they could give me.

I liked the Golden Landmark Club Rooms, and would use them again if the price was very good (not sure if they have been redecorated or updated since early 2007).

Thank you for the advises.

So no club room for us that is. As said, we don%26#39;t need a fancy hotel room.

Those breakfast place tips were good, thank you!

But what about that internet connection? We need that, but I have yet failed to find us a hotel that would offer a free internet connection AND a pool. All the hotels want extra money for the net connection.

So can anyone recommend us a hotel that would have a pool, a 24h net for free, would be close to a metro station and would also be a reasonable price??

WiFi is free througout Singapore, register here https://myad1.singnet.com.sg/wireless@sg_signup/onlineapplication.jsp?apptype=was%26amp;id=0.24151885958353192

So unless you dont have WiFi or need a Very fast LAN connection, I wouldn%26#39;t bother with the hotels paid for offering.

how often do u need the internet ? daily or 3 times a day ? There are enough internet cafes and there is also the public library not too far away.

Good Luck

Hi,

I sometimes used the internet computers at The Pacific Coffee Company coffee shop (customers can use them after purchasing something). It is on Raffles Link - I went through an exit door in The City Link Mall.

For me,Club rooms are useful in Singapore if you are a drinker.

Alcohol prices are insane %26amp; 2 or 3 hrs of free alcohol for 2 people will save you a stack.

Breakfast is fine but local food is 10x better %26amp; cheaper than the western buffet

Dont really know G Landmark but its not rated very highly in the hotel section on TA
