Hi, I%26#39;m a total Singapore novice, and have just been given the opportunity for a quick 2 night stay in early March.
We will be staying at the Mandarin Marina, and whilst i%26#39;ve heard the food there is OK, i would much provide to get out and taste some more local food for lunch and dinner.
Happy to eat street food or restaurant food, and we love seafood.
Can anyone recommend some good places for us to try bearing in mind our location, and how we might get to them?
Thanks for your suggestions!
AC
Where to eat if staying at Mandarin Marina?
The food court is pretty good at Marina Square Mall. If not, walk over to Suntec or Raffles City.
If u like a short walk along the harborfront, enjoy Glutton Bay. or take the MRT one stop at Bugis, etc
U dont lack options !
Where to eat if staying at Mandarin Marina?
There are far too many to list. Resturants along Esplande and Boat Quay are walking distance. Hawkers at Glutton Bay Markansutra are good. Lau Pa Sat is a little further way but fine for an evening stroll, best place for satay in the evenings. Food Courts a plent at all the ajoining shopping centres. High end seafood places along Merlion Park. Finding some thing to eat within a few minutes walk will will not be a problem. Plenty of places open late into the early hours too if your body clock is still on London time when you arrive. If you only have 2 nights, there not much point hunting down places that require a journey on public transport or taxi, theres more than enough with 5-10 min walk to fill a full week!
Thanks for the info and suggestions. That is really useful. We wont be going hungry then!!! Mmmmmmmm
Can i ask a silly question about food ettiquette in Singapore?
If you eat at hawker places, is it the done thing to have one thing at one place, and then move on to somewhere else for a different thing, or do people tend to stop at one place only?
I know you would tend to stay put at a proper restaurant, but not sure about the informal places!
Thank you!

ur Q put a smile on my face about etiquette in a food court/hawker center. There is none !
U can buy food from any stall and either they will be delivered to you at that table (note the table number) or u can pick it up personally at the stall. It is a great way to try out new food. The usual steps are :
1) take a stroll all along the stalls and see what are on offer
2) take note of the ones that really interest u
3) give ur order
4) Enjoy it/them at your table !
Glad i made you smile! :)
Cool, sounds great to me. I love to try lots of new things, so mooching around stopping here and there having something works for me!
I%26#39;m soooooooo going to enjoy this!!!
Mmmm, i can almost taste the satay, the seafood, the.....
:)
Hello AC,
I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll love the food!
With regard to your interesting qns on ettiquete, also note that sometimes if the hawker centre is crowded, pple may want to share table with you. By the same token, you could also request to share table with others if you cant find any seats.
During office lunch hours at hawker centres//food courts in the CBD area such as the Lau Pa Sat, Amoy Food Centre etc Singaporeans tend to book seats using their tissue paper packets (very common), or any other things. These are just some singaporean culture to take note.
Have fun!

All this info is great. Thanks to AC for asking and to everyone else for replying. My wife %26amp; I arrive in Singapore Jan 30 and will be looking for food !!!. Too bad we leave the next day for an Asian cruise.
Thanks for the extra information Suying.
Sharing tables is fine- it sounds alot like going to eat at tapas bars in Madrid.
Just wondering, does anyone have a recommendation of a good seafood buffet? There are so many hotel buffets, it gets hard to tell which are any good, and which do seafood!
I have heard the Sentosa buffet is good for seafood, is that right? Or maybe the Intercontinental one?
Help! I%26#39;m stuck!
Cheers!
Hi AC,
Do you mean western grill seafood buffet? If it is, there is one at the Terrace in Sentosa Resort and Spa Hotel, and another one in Pan Pacific Hotel. However, I have yet to try them.
Seafood, as in prawns, crabs, fishes, shellfish etc, i would prefer to take the ala carte chinese seafood in Sg. There are lots of Chinese Seafood Restaurants albeit not buffet style.
Some good ones are as follows:
Tung Lok Chain of Restaurants (Vivocity, East Coast Beach, Esplanade, Fullerton Hotel), Poh Kee @ #01-02 Seng Poh Lane, Pu Tien, Imperial Treasures at Takashimaya 5th Level, Jumbo Seafood, Xiao Hong Lou, Li Bai at Sheraton Hotel, Min Jiang at Goodwoodpark hotel... and many more.
You%26#39;ll find lots in Singapore.
Cheers,
Suying
Thanks again Suying.
I%26#39;ve already got a plan to go to the Nosignoard Seafood place on the esplanade the night we arrive. So it sounds like i%26#39;m on the right track with that!
Have read up on lots of reviews, and it looks like The Melt (at Mandarin Oriental) is a possibility for the ';western'; buffet. And i%26#39;m also thinking of going to the Dim Sum buffet at River City - i do love Dim Sum!! It will be good to compare against the amazing Dim Sum had in Hong Kong!
Thanks for your help!
