Family hotel - resort feel - only around S$200 per night

Hi

Flying into KL and the have the option of flying to either Singapore or Penang for 5 nights. Then back to KL for 2 nights then home.

Will have a 16 month old with us. Like the fact that in Penang you can get cheap family resorts (beachside, big pools etc) but not too keen on Penang itself, would much prefer to go to Singapore cleaner more modern and to see the Zoo, Sentosa Island etc.

I see there are resorts on Sentosa Island but they all look too expensive. Any suggestions on accomodation or ';must see%26#39;s'; in Singapore?

Also, is it a lot more expensive to eat, drink, play etc in Singapore than Malaysia? Whats the copst of a typical dinner for 2 in Singapore?

Cheers

Nathan

Food costs may be a bit more than Penang, butnot eneough to make a dent in the wallent over 5 days. From around S$5 for a main meal and a soft drink per person in an Food Court or Hawker centre. Large Pizza around S$20, the usual chain fast food places are less than in Australia. Hotels are however a lot more expennsive than in Penang but prices are falling fast. 5* hotel can be had for under $200 pernight. Yes most things do cost a little more in Singapore than Malaysia, though Hotels will be you biggest expense, if you can cover that, the extra cost for food ect will be relatively small.

Penang has some good resorts (Shangri la chain) and prices are very reasonable. Their beaches arent bad either. If u wish to hang out at the pool and beach, it isnt a bad option.

But if u wish to explore a city with comfort, I agree that SIN might be a better option. If so, check these out :

good luck

PS. SIN is definitely more expensive than M%26#39;SIA but if u r not picky (i.e. eating in fine dining establishment), u can find food at reasonable cost. As SIN is also a lot cleaner (esp. in food hygiene), u can eat at local food stalls with a lighter heart and these places serve good food at low prices. Food courts and hawker centers are everywhere even on Sentosa. If not, u can make it to Vivocity easily for more options.
