We are in Singapore for a week in early May. We have been before, a few years ago for three days.
I was wondering whether it was better to spend only 4 nights in Singapore and perhaps 2 at Sentosa Island. Would that be better than a week in Singapore? We are not fond of watersports, but we are happy to laze around the pool or beach for a short while.
Do we stay or move around?
Sentosa Island is easily accessible from hotels in the Orchard/Marina/Chinatown districts so it%26#39;s actually not absolutely necessary to spilt your stay between Singapore and Sentosa Island. Moreover, Sentosa can be easily toured within a day if you start early.
However for the fun of it, why not? Especially since you would like more time to laze around the beach(Sentosa%26#39;s Siloso Beach is nice).
Do we stay or move around?
I agree, Sentosa is so close to the city, the extra cost and the bother of moving to another hotel seems hardly worthwhile. Enjoy. Alan,
Hello Scliffy,
As per mentioned, Sentosa is readily accessible via public transport, albeit the change in trains etc can be quite cumbersome depending on where you are staying. If as per mentioned by your other post you are staying in Concorde it%26#39;s easier, you will take the train of purple line from dhoby ghaut mrt to reach Harbor Front. And from Harbour Front you take a tram ride or Cable Car to get into Sentosa.
And as rightly commented by Alan, it can be a hassle moving your luggages around. =)
And if you aren%26#39;t troubled by the hassle of moving around, then you can really consider Sentosa Island as a getaway from the bustling life in Sg city and experience a different feel.
Sentosa Island is not only for the watersports, there are a variety of attractions on that island such as the Fort Siloso Museum, the Underwater world, the Dolphin Lagoon, the Sentosa Luge rides, the Merlion, the Songs of the Sea (lovely laser shows with fireworks) etc etc. If you take time to enjoy the sights, two days would be a good pace. And because you will mainly walk alot in the island to get a better feel and see more things, you will most probably be tired after a day exploration and it will really be a plus point to know that you are staying within Sentosa! So you dont have to take the trains journey back. Or if you take a taxi, it will solve the problem too. =)
However, please note that a few parts of Sentosa is under renovation now. And take note not to stay in Siloso Hotel as there is a renovation right infront of it! There is The Treasure Hotel, the Amara Sanctuary Resort (NEW HOTEL), the Sentosa Resort and Spa, and the Shangrila at Sentosa. If you are into chillout places by the beach, you%26#39;ll love the Shangrila most probably as it is near to the stretch of beach restaurants.
Cheers,
Suying
Sentosa is easy to get to from any of the major hotels in SIngapore by taxi or a combination of MRT and Sentosa%26#39;s own transport links.
I would only do what you suggest myself if I specifically wanted to use one of the hotels - as opposed to the attractions on Sentosa. As yet I have not seen enough in the hotels there to warrant that, I would stay in a hotel in the city and go to Sentosa for the days that I wanted to. It gives me the flexibility to go to whatever attractions I want when I want....if I was staying on Sentosa I%26#39;d feel tied more to exploring the island on the days I stayed there and if crowds or weather were less than ideal it would lower my experience. A city hotel means I could go elsewhere and do Sentosa another day.
The current, extensive building program on Sentosa would actually be the biggest drawback to this idea in my mind.
To add some balance - My cousin did this on one holiday 4 years ago to allow him the largest amount of time on the island combined with the facilities of the Rasa Sentosa hotel. He did say afterwards that moving hotel mid holiday was annoying as it did limit what they could do that day, but it was easy with one taxi. They simply explored Sentosa for the three days they were there and had no adverse weather.
Hi scliffy,
If you want to laze around the pool or beach on Sentosa, and don%26#39;t mind the hassle of transferring hotels, my advice is stay in Shangri-la Rasa Sentosa first, then after 2 or 3 days, take a cab to your city hotel. In this way, you can laze around Rasa Sentosa%26#39;s private beach and pool, which are next to one another (It is a comfortable place to laze around and more privacy than in public beaches), and get accustom to the humid climate of Singapore there. For your consideration.
