Transit Hotel Confusion

My wife and I will heading to Penang via Singapore in May and as our Emirates flight gets in to Changi at 0100 in the morning we were intending to stay at the transit hotel for a 6 - 7 hour stay then catching either a Singapore Air or Malaysia Air flight on to Penang. I assumed that we would have been able to collect our bags before going through immigration/customs, doing that in the morning, after our stay at the hotel. It sounds like the transit hotel is really only for ';transitting'; passengers who are not changing airlines. The earlier posts suggested that the hotel outside is a better option so can anyone advise if it has 6 hour bookings and/or what is the price for a nights stay?

Transit Hotel Confusion

The Crowne Plaza outside the airport cost us just under $200 AUD recently, booking and paying in advance on their website. I don%26#39;t know if they do shorter blocks. It%26#39;s a great hotel - very new.

Even in you are with Singapore Air or Malaysian, they may be able to book your bags through to Penang from Melbourne, I think. We did this once. Could not do it with one of the point-to-point budget airlines, but I think you can with the major ones. Perhaps check with Emirates. That way you coudl stay in the transit area and your bags would be fine

The other option is to collect your bags and then check in and go back into the transit area straight away. I think you might be able to do this with Singapore Airlines at Singapore Airport, as they allow earlier check in for some flights.

The Aiport Hotel will charge your for a full day stay, while the transit hotel charges by 6 hour block, so will be very much cheaper.

Thanks for the replies.

I think we will book into a hotel outside the terminals, spend the time there, then re enter through the normal check in process. As it is the start of our holiday why worry over a few extra dollars.
