Has anyone stayed at the Golden Landmark Hotel

Hi

I have been looking at this hotel on the website and they have a good special at the moment 32sq metre room (which seems large for Singapore) on the 12/15th floor including breakfast for $205 singapore including all taxes and services. Looks fine on the website. Any comments re location and what to expect

Has anyone stayed at the Golden Landmark Hotel

Hello,

I stayed in an Executive Club Room at the Golden Landmark for 5 nights in March 2007. Better rooms on a high floor, separate small breakfast room for club floor guests. Breakfast included in deal, and free internet at computer in club lounge. They were advertising the Club rooms as ';recently renovated'; when I booked in early 2007, and they are still doing that in Feb 2009. Don%26#39;t really think they should say ';recent'; when its over 2 years.

Not sure what standard rooms are like, and the main breakfast room on lobby floor always looked crowded and noisy. Have you read recent tripadvisor reviews of this hotel?

Location of Golden Landmark great. 3 minutes walk from Bugis MRT and Parco Bugis Junction shopping centre. It had a food court and small supermarket in basement. Raffles Hospital between the hotel and Bugis MRT had a nice little food court. Bus stops along Victoria road to get you almost anywhere.

Thanks for your advice. I am looking at a club room now as they also are offering a good special on that. Were the rooms comfortable and spacious. I find some of the rooms in Singapore very small and especially the ones without windows are not all comfortable as I feel too locked in. Seems like the location is right.

Hello,

I felt the Club Room was of average size for Singapore Hotels. It was nicely furnished in brown tones. Not hi-tech minimalist modern like some of the new hotels. Not spectacular, but comfortable. Bathroom was of average size. Fairly Large windows -I had a nice view over the Arab Street area and Parkview Square. Because the Executive Club Rooms are at the top of the hotel I found it very quiet. Not sure how many rooms are up there, didn%26#39;t seem a lot.

I really enjoyed using the club lounge. Looked like a modern little ';Coffee Club'; coffee shop. Small buffet breakfast laid out as you walked in. About 12 small tables. One or two staff members on duty.

My deal included free internet on the computers in that club lounge area. I found that handy. Printer attached. Magazines available too. Also included in my deal was all day access to that lounge for coffee, cookies and fruit. Also 6pm Canapes %26amp; drinks, but I never went to that. Not sure whether the hotel is still offering this kind of deal. As I said, mine was in early 2007.

Enjoyed the location and closeness to transport.

Hi

Yes some deals going for Club with perks (doesnt say what, cocktails, pressing and parking

and another for Club with breakfast included for about the same price.

It is about $5 more than just a Superior King on the 12th with no breakfast.

About 182.00 per night with breakfast for 2. That is really cheap for singapore where most of them seem to be about $250 - $300 night. We will only be ther 2 nights on the way to Europe for 10 weeks, so saving some money is important at the start of the trip. However we dont want to be stuck in the worst hotel in Singapore just to save a few bucks.

We have always stayed in the Orchard Road area but then are $350 up a night now, cant believe it.

Did you find the breakfast worth having, or was it all indian type food. I know it was 2007, but guess they havent suddenly changed. If is Indian or chinese food I would rather have it without breakfast and find breakfast elsewhere, as I find it a bit difficult to handle rice and noodles type food first thing in the morning.

Thanks for your help. So difficult to make a decision. The location seems to make it easy to get around, close to the MTR and that is important.

Hello again,

The small breakfast room on the Executive Club floor served a small buffet selection of traditional western foods including scrambled eggs, small sausages, cereals, toast and jams, fruit, coffee, tea %26amp; juices. Not a massive selection, but good quality food served nicely.

Me again,

Just checked on www.wotif.com.au (the website I booked the Golden Landmark on) and it still has the exact same deal I got. Executive Club Room, complimentary breakfast, evening cocktails and unlimited internet, an a couple of other minor things. Also has Deluxe rooms at a cheaper rate.

Prices shown in Singapore Dollars, but exchange rate is only about a dollars difference from Aussie Dollar.

Thanks for information

There is a special on booking.com for about $185 a night on club floor with breakfast and that is cheaper than the hotel direct. We arent travelling to July so at this wotif isnt an option and as it seems to be school holidays around that time, didnt know that when I booked, I think that if I wait wotif may not have the same specials. Tiger Airlines had the Royal Plaza at Scotts last week at $175 a night and I hestitated and now it is $350. I need a website that doesnt charge the credit card straight away as there is still a chance that we may have the cancel the whole trip because of the exchange rate. Did you feel safe wandering around that area and walking to the MTR I believe the hotel is in an older area in Arab area. Is it close to Bugis Street area to walk to the resturants

Hi,

I felt absolutely safe in that area of Victoria Street (its a huge wide main road). I found it difficult at first to find the main entrance of the Golden Landmark Hotel, but then found out you can get into the hotel lobby via an elevator on the Victoria Street side (the hotel is attached to an older small shopping complex - indian style little shops like a travel agent %26amp; clothes shops - not really worth a look).

The MRT is 3 minutes walk away - out of the hotel, past Raffles Hospital with its nice modern food court at the front, continue along the footpath 50m then you are right at the BUGIS MRT station (go down the steps). Parco Bugis Junction shopping complex and the InterContinental Hotel are attached to the MRT. Further along Victoria Street is the Singapore National Library, %26amp; some open air food courts. Then you come to the major intersection with Bras Basah Road. Straight ahead is CHIJMES (old church complex turned into restaurant and bar venue), turn right along Bras Basah Road and the Art Gallery is nearby, turn left past The Carlton Hotel and you are at Raffles Hotel and Raffles City Shopping Centre. Walkable all within 15 minutes of Golden Landmark. Or, nearby behind Golden Landmark is the Arab Street area (Busorah Mall - little paved open air shopping street) and the gold domed Sultan Mosque.

Thanks so much for the information. So if you arrive by taxi from the airport where is the actual entrance to the lobby, the one you talk about in Victoria Street and through the shopping arcade or in another street

I am not exacly sure - it seemed little a tiny little street/lane around the side. I just stumbled on it by chance after arriving in Singapore in the early morning and walking 2-3 blocks from the Bugis MRT. But, the address of the Hotel I think is 390 Victoria Street. Just say %26#39;Golden Landmark Hotel%26#39; to the Taxi driver and they will know the way. I remember I went into a little entrance and was greeted by a hotel bell-hop who took my bag and put me in an elevator and the lobby was one floor up.

It looked like a late 1980s era white building.
