Singapore to Malacca

We are planning to go to Malacca by bus after 2 days in Singapur next August.(It will be on a Saturday morning)

I have found information in TA about coach companies which go there but I have also read on my travel guide that it is specially busy and messy on weekends. That it is recommended not to cross the border on weekends.

I have seen that another option could be to get a taxi to Johore Bahru and from there a bus to Malacca. Do you think this option could be less consfusing?

What about getting a taxi from Singapore to Malacca? Would it be easier? How much could it cost that?

Singapore to Malacca

Yes weekends can be busy especially if you are planning a visit anywhere near 9 Aug ( Singapore%26#39;s National Day). However, if you are patient and don%26#39;t mind long queues, the coaches can be quite a comfortable way of getting there. Another option is to rent a car and drive if there are a few of you.

Think taxi from Singapore will cost alot.

Can you move the trip off the weekend - that is best choice. :)

Coaches can be quite good (get a better quality one) - and should not be a problem - just buy your tickets early.

You can hire a private car to take you there, but the price would be quite expensive compared to coach. You could find a ';non-legal'; driver probably in JB that would be cheaper than a taxi - but you may not be in a good bargaining position if you just show up and obviously are new to SE Asia.

Thank you both for your answer!

9 Aug , Singapore%26#39;s National Day?? oops that%26#39;s exactly the day we were planning to go to Malacca.

So, do you think the best would be to move the trip to Sunday 10 Aug? This means to lose a day for our other plans, but it is maybe the best option.

Are there any festivals or any special events for Singapore%26#39;s National Day? It could be nice to enjoy a celebration there.

Hello!

We have decided to go to Malacca on 9th August, despite the long queues that are suposed to be that day. It is the only way to manage the plans we already have for visiting all the places we want to visit. We will be patient and choose a comfortable coach.

How long in advance do you recommend me to buy the tickets? Two days before (whe we will arrive at Singapore) will be enough? Or is it recommended to buy them before on the net?

Hi Moon5,

I think it is best to book early (3 months in advance) cos I think alot of people may be thinking of travelling to M%26#39;sia around that period.

If you can, please consider travelling a few days before or a few days after 9 Aug (on a weekday) for a smoother journey.

Having said that, if you have no choice, just take it easy and be prepared for a bit of delay.

National Day in Singapore is quite nice...there are usually fireworks, starting on the eve and continuing for some days after National Day. If you goggle %26#39;Singapore National Day 2008%26#39; nearer to August, there should be a website on the celebrations that you can take a look at for more ideas.

Cheers

Enjoy!

I would suggest you to get a coach to Malacca. Taxi to malacca is expensive and they will also stuck in in the queue. You can get a comfortable coach to Malacca, there%26#39;re a few which i know:

Cheap Option:

Singapore - Malacca Express

Delima Express (www.hasryexpress.com)

707 Express (www.707-travel.com.sg)

Luxury Option:

Grassland Express (www.grassland.com.sg)

I am travelling to Malacca in March 09 and would love to hear about your experiences moon5.

I would also appreciate if anyone could tell me of a luxury coach company they can recommend from SIN to Malacca. Also are there luxury beach resorts in Malacca? It is our wedding anniversary and I am splashing out, but can%26#39;t seem to find anything that is terribly appealing...(most of the resorts look well worn)

Hi Curryokequeen,

We finally didn%26#39;t take the bus to Malacca. We flew to Kuala Lumpur, where we stayed a couple of days, and from there we took a bus to Malacca.

I don%26#39;t know if there are good resorts in Malacca(I don%26#39;t think so...), but I thing Malacca is not the best place for your wedding anniversary if you are looking for beach. Malacca is not a beach destination, and altough is a beautiful town one day there is enough.

I would suggest you to stay at any of the beautiful islands of Malaysia.

Depending on the season you go there : Langkawi or Pangkor on the west coast or Perhentian, Redang or Tioman on the East coast, (and these are just some suggestions)

Hi Curryokequeen,

I agree with Moon5 that Malacca is not a beach resort place. However, if your mind is set and would still like to stay in Malacca you can try

holidaycity.com/holiday-inn-melaka/index.htm

And yes, Redang and Tioman is more beautiful... definitely a preferred venue for romantic occasions.

Hi Moon5, taking the plane definitely solves your problems about the heavy traffic! A note of concern is that when you take taxis in Malaysia, better be careful as I have westerner friends who in their downest luck bummed into some dishonest taxi drivers and paid hefty prices for the taxi fares.

Cheers,

Suying

Thanks for your reply... much appreciated... I%26#39;m not looking for a beach holiday, but would like the accommodation to be on the beach. I like the architecture and history of places such as Malacca... I%26#39;ll take your input into consideration - and welcome any other suggestions in the region. Thanks
