Going to JB (Johor Bahru) Malaysia?

Read this Article first.

Remember even if you are in a Taxi, pls also Lock the door.....Cos it not even safe at the custom.

This is not an isolate incident cos similiar attack had happen to even Singaporean in their own private car (near custom, at shopping Malls carpark %26amp; even infront of the Police station 50m from the Old Custom). WHether the shopping is worth the trip or not, is up to your discretion.

Bus driver hurt in bid to stop robbers

JOHOR BARU, Malaysia: Bleeding profusely after being slashed by two men on Tuesday, the driver of a Singapore-bound stage bus managed to get the vehicle to the border checkpoint before seeking treatment.

Ngeng Pek Chung, a Malaysian with Singapore permanent resident status, was taken to Sultanah Aminah Hospital by traffic police on duty at the checkpoint and later lodged a report at Johor Baru Central police headquarters.

The 29-year-old then underwent surgery at National University Hospital in Singapore and was reported to be stable.

Ngeng was driving the bus from Kotaraya 2 Terminal to Singapore when he was attacked by two parang wielding men at 3.45pm, a kilometre from the new Sultan Iskandar Building checkpoint.

The two men, among five passengers on the bus, had initially attempted to rob a woman passenger.

Ngeng stopped the bus and confronted them. The men then turned their attention on him, robbing him of his wallet and slashing him on the left shoulder and wrist before fleeing the bus.

SBS Transit spokesman Tammy Tan said the company was doing all it could to help Ngeng.

';Luckily, no passengers were injured. This is the first time such an incident has happened on one of our buses.';

Ngeng has worked with SBS for eight years.

Johor Baru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Zainuddin Yaacob said Ngeng lost his personal documents, RM260 and S$50 (RM120).

Police are trying to contact the other passengers who were on the bus to assist in investigations.

Going to JB (Johor Bahru) Malaysia?

Hello Me^Only,

This article is very helpful and indeed all tourists coming to Singapore should be well-informed of such situations.

The JB is a hotspot for criminals and anyone going to shop in JB has to think twice seriously, especially if you are a lady or if you have kids with you.

Shopping in JB, though cheaper, is not as safe as it is in Thailand. I have westerner friends who told me the taxis charged them exorbitant prices.

As for public buses, it didnt even cross my mind. =p

Going to JB (Johor Bahru) Malaysia?

Hi Suying

Yeah for a Singapore Public Bus it also the first time I heard about it. As on a Malaysia Bus, I know of a Mysian Friend whose pal got robbed yrs ago %26amp; he was sitting about 3 seat towards the back row. SOmeone next to him point a sharp 15cm knife at his waist %26amp; warned him to hand over his wallet %26amp; cell %26amp; not to shout for help.

Well, anything can happen anywhere (I say this alot after 911)......^__^

Hahahah... True to a certain degree. =p

Some places just have high probability of risk than the rest... the 911 is a highly exceptional case... 1st time in history for americans. =)

I have so many malaysian friends, hearing of the robbery cases in their homes, my family%26#39;s friends going malaysia getting robbed etc etc... always made me shudder at the thought of it.

And I do have a few foreign friends (males) who went and returned safely. All about chances I guess... but ladies tourists who are travelling alone should best keep away from going JB I would think. =)

Cheer,

Suying

For all tourist and Singaporean,

IF you are just heading to Johore!

I will recommend taking the Singapore-Johore Express bus that can be taken near Bugis MRT station. which is safe and convenient that stops at the Johore Custom or Larkin(JOHORE MAIN BUS TERMINAL).

Cheers,

Shawn
