Chili or Pepper Crab

First off, I have been in Singapore for 2 weeks and have 2 weeks left. I have had an outstanding time. I plan on coming back for the month of April.

I%26#39;ve eaten at several of the hawker centers and usually eat at one once a day. However, I have yet to had the chili or pepper crab. I know this topic has been written about multiple times, but can%26#39;t find the topic on here.

I would like to go with my husband to dinner either tonight (Saturday) or tomorrow night (Sunday). We were thinking of spending Sunday evening at Senosta, so that is an option as well.

I know I%26#39;ve read about Jumbo%26#39;s, but where else would be a good first place to try the crab? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Chili or Pepper Crab

They should really add an edit button...Sentosa, I meant.

Chili or Pepper Crab

I have a preference for Jumbo ( http://www.jumboseafood.com.sg ). You can head to their outlets in the city or at East Coast Seafood Centre. You may call them ahead to reserve a table.

Others which other people might prefer are Long Beach ( http://www.longbeachseafood.com.sg ) or No Signboard ( http://nosignboardseafood.com ) or even Melben in Ang Mo Kio township at Block 232 Ang Mo Kio Ave 3.

I;m not really a foodie, but just follow my foodies friends when we go out for dinner.... their picks (and therefore mine, since I probably don%26#39;t know that much better):

Jumbo%26#39;s : Chilli crab

No SIgnboard : White Pepper Crab

Long Beach : Black Pepper crab.

Now your next question would be: Black, White or Chilli? ;-P

I would prefer chili crab.

do remember to order (if available) fried buns. one of the way to enjoy the chili crab gravy is to dip your buns into the gravy. ^^

black pepper crab tastes too dry. but thats my opinion.

since there is only two of u, i would say order a small chili crab and a small pepper so u can enjoy both ! I normally go to Long Beach for both crabs (and more ! bamboo clams with garlic, sambal kangkong, baby sotong, etc)

Well, we didn%26#39;t make it out for chili crab this past weekend. We forgot it was Valentine%26#39;s Day and didn%26#39;t want to be bombarded with all that goes with it. Therefore, we%26#39;ll try it again this weekend.

I figured we would follow the advice of getting one small of chili and pepper. It sounds like everyone is pretty confident with the three choices of venues and can%26#39;t go wrong with any of them.

Thanks

Hi,

Not sure about your palate, but we took a French friend for chili crab at Long Beach and it was spicier than the one at Jumbo%26#39;s, but it%26#39;s a good idea to try a bit of both...Bon appetit!

Hi there,

you can try this out.

Matter Road Seafood Barbecue

Address:old Airport Road Hawker Centre (not far off from the toilet entrance)

Operating Hours 4.00pm to 11.00pm Closed Tue %26amp; Wed

Rating :

Fresh crabs in spicy chilli sauce which the owner takes two days off a week just to make. They were originally called Mattar Rd seafood but the ang-mo educated signboard maker had better ideas and erased their heritage. Trivia…there%26#39;s no Matter Rd in Singapore.

as recommended from

http://www.makansutra.com/topten_sg.html

they have black pepper crab too! you should get to try both! For Chilli crab will suggest for you to buy some bread to dip into the tasty sauce!

This is a much cheaper option compared to the above suggestion. which you will be paying for the service and atmosphere!

Enjoy! Shawn
