Price range for clarke quay restaurants

I am planning to stay in the Clarke Quay area when I visit Singapore later this year, and I am assuming that the prices for the restaurants in that area are somewhere between the hawker centers and the hotel dining venues. That is a large range. Can someone give me a little better idea of what to expect price wise? For example, the Jumbo Seafood restaurant.

Also, do the restaurants add the 17.7% tax to the bill, the same as the hotels? :)

Thanks.

Hi Tommy,

You could visit their website:

http://www.jumboseafood.com.sg/profile.html

However, they only list prices for the current Chinese New Year Set dinners.

It really depends on what you ordered. Their famos crab is charged according to the weight of the crab and there are different grades of crab. One crab could range between S$40-S$100.

As for fishes, it also depends on what fish you choose and one fish could range from S$30 onwards.

Not sure if you are into a feast, but usually for me I%26#39;ll spend about S$70 per person for a relatively good meal at Jumbo. And yes, they do charge the 10% Service fee and 7% GST.

Personal preference wise, I wouldnt go eat at the Clarke Quay or Boat Quay area (those along the river) for Chinese seafood as it tastes average and the price is quite steep. Not value for money.

Other good Chinese Seafood Restaurants, my favorite restaurant is always the Tung Lok Chain of Restaurants. There is one at East Coast Beach, one at Vivocity, one at the Esplanade building and one at the Fullerton Hotel. If you do happen to go, try their Peking Duck - it%26#39;s excellently roasted, crispy and fats mostly drained out.

And other good restaurants also include Li Bai Restaurant at Sheraton Hotel, Min Jiang at Goodwoodpark Hotel, Imperial Treasures at 5th Floor of Takashimaya, Poh Kee Restaurant (#01-02 Seng Poh Lane, 69 seng poh lane (Next to the public carpark)).

And dont just try out the fine dine seafood in hotels and restaurants... also visit the hawker centre seafood stalls at East Coast Lagoon or the Newton Hawker. Cheap and good.

Cheers,

Suying

Depending on where you go and what you order, you are looking at around $35-40 for a main and a pint of beer. Add the tax on top of that. Places like this in the Clarke Quay area are Brewerkz, Cafe Iguana, The Pump Room which are more like pubs than %26#39;proper%26#39; restaurants.

we ate a couple of times at Clarke Quay. We went to Hutong which served chines food and we also went to a balinese restaurant (can%26#39;t remember the name, but it was just near the river. Hutong was quite expensive, around $28 a dish. The balinese place was quite reasonable 16-24 a dish.

I think the Clarke Quay restaurants are better value than Boat Quay.

I don;t like how pushy the touts are in Boat Quay - outside the restaurants.

Hi Suying,

I saw you had recommended Tung Lok, and took a look at their Tung Lok Seafood website. The dim sum and dim sum and seafood buffets look wonderful, but they say both are for a minimum of four persons.. and we are only 2!

Do you know if they ever relax the 4 people rule? Or is there a branch where it doesnt apply?

I%26#39;d love to go, but i dont know where i%26#39;m going to find another 2 people from, i certainly cant aford to bring 2 more people with me from the UK!! :)

Re Tung Lok - check out their Signatures restaurant at Clarke Quay. Great view (overlooking Clarke Quay and the bungee). Excellent restaurant and exceptionally good quality food. Prices - 3 of us dined there - one person is a teenager - so no alcohol involved in that case - so from memory we paid around S$110 all taxes included. Yes restaurants add the taxes to the bill. But you do not have to tip them - so don%26#39;t do it.
