Could anyone recommend a clean, comfortable hotel for about $200 AU a night ($192), that has windows and a refrigerator. Around Chinatown or Bugis, or near to MTR so we can get around.
Hotel for $200 AU nightHi Janderra,
I%26#39;m not sure when you are checking into Sg but it surely seems like the hotel prices are fluctuating up and down now. prices in April are more expensive than in February now if you were to book now.
And for now, you could easily get a 5Star hotel at a 4 star rate which could just fit in your budget nicely. So it pays to surf a few hotel websites and check out what attractive prices they are offering.
In Bugis you could check out Intercontinental Hotel. Or for much cheaper budget you could check out the Allson Hotel. Accessibility in Bugis is definitely better than that of the Chinatown area if you were to look at the Sg MRT Tracks.
As for the Chinatown area, you could check out the Furama Chinatown, the Hotel 81 or even the Albert Court Hotel.
Cheers,
Suying
Hotel for $200 AU nightThanks Suying for the advice.
We are travelling in July and that seems to be so much more expensive than now.
I have checked the Albert Court and that is showing about $223 Singapore with taxes about $231Australian. That is the cheapest
The Furuma is coming up at about $288 (room only).
I did look at the Hotel 81 but it seems to show that most of the rooms in their hotels dont have windows, and they dont have fridge. My friend stayed at 1 of the Hotel 81 in that area, and she said that there was no wardrobes and a lot of the rooms let by the hour.
I will check out the others you suggested.
why dont u look at the new hotel like Ibis Bencoolen ? it is a short walk to an MRT and the price is right.
Would also recommend for your price range try :
Hotel Re
Grand Park City Hall (not in your area of choice but a good location to explore and walk around, close to the City Hall MRT)
Good Luck

I suspect that late bookings (outside event dates) will result in the lowest prices as hotel try to fill their rooms. It may be worth your while to book a room now with no cancellation charges for peace of mind and see if the prices drop closer to your travel time. Then you can get one at a cheaper rate.
Hi Janderra,
Me Only%26#39;s listing explains the hike in prices again. Hotels usually quote their prices according to whether there are any international events... and most times they are pretty good at forecasting their occupancy level.
A possible reason for the high prices might be that these international groups already booked their accommodations way in advance...
What you now need to do is to see if your exact dates for travelling falls on the same dates as any major international event.
If it does, it%26#39;s wiser for you to book hotel venue which are further away from the event place. Eg, if it%26#39;s an international conference at Suntec, then dont find a hotel within that district as hotels tend to increase the price drastically.
But if there is no major event, I would most probably hold and wait till the time nears to make the hotel booking.
Cheers,
Suying
zuji.com.au had some good deals when i used it to book a few weeks ago. The Royal Plaza on Scotts (orchard rd area), for example, was AU$188. Can%26#39;t remember if included b%26#39;fast or not, though.
Thanks for your advice everyone. We are travelling on the 14/15th July and fares booked and not able to be changed. Seems like the only event then is the sales. I will check out the other hotels you recommend and also zuyi.com.au as that is a site I dont know.
I have had a look at the Ibis and it doesnt seem to have a fridge, and I wanted a fridge so we could keep some wine and beer cold as I know the prices of a glass of wine in singapore are very very expensive in a resturant. I think they charged me $20 Australian for 1 glass in a small bar last time I was there.
Any other advice re to stay or to eat and drink at a reasonable rate for dinner is much appreciated. It is over 10 years since our last visit and we ate mainly at Newton circus and my husband drank beer and I took my own whisky. Things have probably changed a lot since then and there may be other food markets that are bette.
HI Janderra,
The seafood in Newton Circus is a little more expensive compared to other hawkers in Singapore. For a good alternative, you could try out the East Coast Lagoon Hawker Centre which offers a wide array of local food. There are also quite a number of seafood stalls there too. It is situated near the beach so your partner would most probably be happy drinking beer by the beach, enjoy the sea breeze and eat delicious local food.

To add on,
Please note that for the East Coast Lagoon Hawker, it is not nearby the Bedok MRT. So you would have to take the bus to reach there.
And Janderra, Sg has changed alot compared to 10years ago. It has become much more commercialised in the central region, the various towns, and the way of life has also improved a great deal.
It is also very much globalised now, with alot of overseas investors whether if it%26#39;s food or shopping or business. So you will get to see various international brands.
And for food, sg has becomed a paradise of it... now you can find food ranges for every income level and there is no lack of it.
Other than the hawker centres, we also have various foodcourts in the shopping malls... cafes, restaurants of different budgets.
However, alcohol is still pretty much on the expensive side compared to other countries. So if you are into whisky or good wines, you will most probably have to pay more for it.
Cheers,
Suying
