two days in Singapore - any suggestions

Hello,

You might enjoy wandering around Little India, The Bugis area, or Chinatown. Lots of great hawker stalls for cheap, local food. Have a wander up and down Orchard Road. Pop into Raffles Hotel for a drink, and their little Museum of the Hotel is worth a look. I guess it depends on what your interests are. Plenty of great museums, galleries and temples to visit.

Hope you enjoy your stay in Singapore.

Hi Mikeontour,

If you are staying near Orchard road, what will first catch your attention will be the various shopping malls in Plaza Singapura, Somerset and Orchard itself.

Singapore is not blessed with breathtaking natural sceneries like Oz or NZ, what you can do is to take a tour in ethnic areas of Singapore such as the Little India, Bugis, the Chinatown, the Arab Streets, the Malay heritage places etc. For this theme, you could join the Hop-On-and-Off Hippo Bus Tour. This bus specialises in these ethnic routes and there is a commentator on board to guide you. In chinatown or bugis you could take the trishaw at S$33 for a refreshing experience along the streets. My advice is to take in the evening when the weather is cooler.

Alternatively, you could visit places like the Clarke Quay, Boat Quay, Esplandade, One Fullerton to catch a glimpse of the Singapore River. On this theme, you could take a bum boat ride (30 or 45 mins) along the singapore river.

Sg has an abundance of good food ranging from Fine Dining of different Cuisines to middle income restaurants to foodcourt (air-conditioned in shopping malls) to hawker centres (non-air con, open air). If you could narrow down your interest on the type of food, we could give you more detailed suggestions.

Other than these, you could also opt to visit the Singapore Zoo, the Botanical Gardens, or even the Sentosa Island.

Feel free to ask more questions about the tourist sites in details.

Cheers,

Suying

Hi Mikeontour - I also stayed in Singapore on my way out to Australia and on the way back last year (four nights in all, so I did have a bit more time than you). My personal highlights were the Botanic Gardens, which are right at the end of Orchard Road - free to get in (though you pay a nominal amount to go into the orchid gardens - it%26#39;s worth it!); the Battle Box, in Fort Canning Park, if you%26#39;re at all interested in the Second World War period; the walk alongside the Singapore River (especially at night, when all the bridges are spectacularly illuminated); Singapore Slings in the Long Bar at Raffles (of course!); and just generally strolling around and taking in the contrast between old colonial buildings and the shiny new skyscrapers. Personally, I didn%26#39;t care much for Orchard Road, but if you%26#39;re into shopping, then it%26#39;s the obvious place to head for. Do head for one of the hawker centres for food; the cost is minimal and the quality of food on offer is generally very high (my favourite was Lau Pa Sat, for the open-air satay stalls in the evenings).
