Pulau Ubin & other roads less travelled.

Coming again soon. Visit #3.

I%26#39;ve done the major things and want to get into the less done. I want to go to P.Ubin especially and am enjoying the hawker discussion too.

But what esle do you experts reckon?

Pulau Ubin %26amp; other roads less travelled.

I am no expert, but this will be my suggestion for you. If you want to go to Pulau Ubin, I guess you are seeking outdoor adventure and a nature lover. I recommend Sungei Buloh Nature Reserve, Bukit Timah Hill Nature reserve, Southern Islands like St. John Island, Pulau Semakau (landfill island), sister islands, etc. The first two you probably can easily hike on your own, but the southern islands I would suggest you get a tour or a guide.

Actually I hate walking, hiking and the heat! But I want to see a different side to Singapore so P. Ubin seemed a good idea! But I will look at your suggestions-thank you!

this might help you

You would need to hire a private boat to go to Sister Island and that is very expensive, so unless you are at least a party of 10, then it%26#39;s worth it. Unfortunately I learnt it the hard way, going all the way to the ferry terminal only to find out that the cost there for 2 of us would be S$200! My friends had done it previously, bu thtere wwere 12 in their party.

Ubin is mainly good if you want to cycle and walk. If you don%26#39;t want the heat, forget it. It is VERY HOT. And if you go in the evening, it%26#39;s still hot and HUMID and you have to contend with the mozzies!

I second the suggestion on Sungei Buloh. More info here:

You can also get more info on parks/nature reserves on the website of the National Parks Board, a statutory board of the Singapore Government:

if u want to do some like walking instead (with less mozzies) you can try walkign along the southern ridges.

its a new park connector form mt faber to west coast park. but u dun have to walk aoll the way there. it basically connects the mt faber, telok belangah park, hernderson waves, hort park and west coast park.

going up to mt bader by foot is abt 10 mins walk up a flight of stairs. but if u wanna be more ';touristy'; you can try going up mt faber using the cable car. frm there yo ucan walk down.

oh yeah.

with regards to the southern island as mentioned. st john island and kusu island can be accessed using a ferry that departs from the marina south pier

child:11

it takes 45 mins to st john island using the ferry tho. the private boat is for those who wanna go there at a faster rate.

I think you should go to Pulau Ubin even if you don%26#39;t like walking. It%26#39;s so much less developed than the city of Singapore that it makes a lovely contrast. You can just do a short walk and then have lunch or a drink. It won%26#39;t be any hotter than the rest of Singapore!

We recently came back from Singapore and I can recommend a half day to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve - here you can see Singapore%26#39;s last reserve of primary forest and its only 8km north of the CBD. We saw quite a bit of wildlife here, including monkeys, lizards and some butterflies. There are different trails which wind there way to the summit at 163metres. There are other reserves near this one too if you want even more nature to explore.
