We visited the night zoo a few years ago and weren%26#39;t all that impressed. We didn%26#39;t see much. Did we go on a bad night? Looking at the web site I noticed that the tram cost extra but I am sure it was included in the entry price when we went. Can anyone help? On the map it looks like a lot of the animals you can only see by tram, not walking. Is this right?
Thanks
Night Zoo - Worth it?? and tram cost
The tram don%26#39;t reach all the animals available. There are three or four stops, from which you can venture out to walk the trail to see certain animals. But the tram do bring you thru some areas where the mild animals can get quite close to you. I am not sure whether walking on your own can reach these places. I think the best way to cover the night safari is still tram plus some walking.
Night Zoo - Worth it?? and tram cost
Always difficult to answer since I do not know why you weren%26#39;t impressed and so on...add to that its a place I like and go to every time I visit Singapore and we may have a disconnect in preferences, but here are some guesses/answers
If you only walk, or if you only tram then there are sections of the Night Safari that you will miss out on. You have to do both to see everything.
Seeing stuff from the tram is dependant on the animal presenting itself for viewing, mostly as you have no control over the rate of progress of the tram. A good night you get fantastically close, and on other nights just after rain its been hard to see some animals because they are hiding from the recent rain. The animals you see on the tram tend to be the larger group size ones - so you theoretically stand a good chance fo seeing something, but even so a bad day and hiding animals and you will miss them.
Tram has always been an additional cost, everytime I have looked and been there (I usually get the parkhopper triple ticket so anything not included in the base entry for the parks is something you have to buy).
Walking gets you to the Fisher Trail and the Leopard Trail and to get the most out of that you need patience and time....waiting for the animals to appear after a large group thunders past.
Things that can impact on the visit and lower the level of experience are moving round quickly, crowds, flash photos being taken, poor night vision and recent rain.
hi
just to add...
i think the animal show, you can skip bcos the waiting in the que plus show takes up a sizable chunk of the time there.... and also...
that there is two shows per night and that is the time you should take the tram ride or do those trail walks bcos it is less crowded with people. believe me, never never do the tram rides after the animal shows.. you end up frustrated with the crowd jostlings.
tip, to enjoy Night Safari is to go early and just do it slowly and not rush rush through the night.
Thanks for that help. Does the tram cost extra? or is it included in entry price?
Hi Mo,
The tram is surely extra cost unless previously there is a package promotion or sth.
Entrance fees (admission only):
Adult S$18.00
Child (3-12 years old) S$9.00
All prices include 7% GST
Prices quoted are subject to change.
Tram (unlimited rides for both weekdays %26amp; weekends):
The tram ride covers 2.2km with three stopovers.
Adult S$5.00
Child (3-12 years old) S$2.50
Personally I also don%26#39;t really think much of the night safari. But some pple loves the night thrill of getting upclose with the animals.
I usually prefer the day tour in the zoo where I can view all animals clearly... And i dont need to take the tram in the day. Free and easy roaming!
Cheers,
Suying
we visted the night safari in January 09. It was pretty good but you did not really see a lot.
You probably didn%26#39;t like it before because you did not go on the tram. I would say that is a necessity. I thought the Night Safari was very very good. It was exceptionally well -organised and given the crowd - the place did not feel overrun by people. We went on the tram - and saw a variety of animals close up plus walked along the trails and saw more animals. The tram ticket is additional to the entrance fee - S$10. Well worth it in IMHO. Many animals are lethargic during the heat of the day at most zoos - here you see the animals moving about in natural looking compounds.
