I am starting to come to the conclusion that there may not really be free wireless in Singapore after all.
I have done a number of Google searches on this topic and I am starting to conclude that it may not exist.
Anyone have a different view? :)
free wireless... where?
There are different providers. Heres one home.singtel.com/WirelessSG/signupnow.asp
Sign up and your good to go.
free wireless... where?
Mcdonalds
Thanks for the info!
I checked out the site (singtel.com) and apparently the free wireless is available for residents of Singapore and tourists, but all must register with singtel.com.
The website lists 3 different companies with whom to register:
- iCell
- QMax
- Singtel
Which of these is the best one to register with? Do it make any difference?
Once you have registered and proceeded to a wifi hot spot does it actually work?
Thanks for the help. :)
register with Singtel for wireless@SG
it is the most common wireless hotspot in Singapore, you can easily find hotspots at McDonalds, coffee bean, starbucks (most of the cafes)
Thanks for the tip!
I know that Sintel is the company name (I think), but what does ';wireless@SG'; refer to?
I assume that is the name of the wireless program or system.
oh, wireless@SG (SG refers to Singapore) is just a product name
to use the hotspot, u just need to enter the webpage for wireless@SG and log in using the userID,password given when u register for an account.
As Singtel is the major telco company in Singapore, the coverage is great
You sign up to one of them and they give you a password. Being free - don%26#39;t expect it to be easily assessible all of the time. Mainly worked when we were in shopping centres. We were there about a month ago so I can assure you what the website mentioned here is the one to use.
I have repeatedly tried to sign up for an account and it won%26#39;t accept.
I am on my home computer, so not in singapore yet ??
it won%26#39;t accept my passport number either.
I have tried all 3 providers but they have the same registration page and all no go.
Help?
I have just registered again using the above link using a made up numerical passport number and a 6digit made up post code and got my password sent to me in 30sec to my UK mobile. Worth trying again.
We are from Australia - they send you the password via SMS to your phone (therein the problem, perhaps UK somehow differs?). But it din%26#39;t work when we gor three. We had to contact them when we arrived in Sing. Best thing might be to wait until you get over there and do it first thing. When we called them they gave us a password (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 no kidding!!) over the phone. Organise your phone service before you go to (international roaming). We found the free wifi worked beter in KL than in Sing.
