Best places to buy art

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy art? Nothing crazy expensive, I%26#39;m lookin more for painted silk panels and the like.

Staying in the Orchard Rd area (will also be in KL for a day ot two if you think I%26#39;d find better stuff there).

Thanks!

Not sure what style you%26#39;re looking for...and what kind of art and what expensive means...

Silk panels...am thinking Chinese art? Try Chinatown, though am not sure where exactly. Am not really into Chinese art. There is a Chinese Heritage Centre there which might be able to help you out. It%26#39;s also kinda like a museum.

If you are into European art, there is a shop at The Cathay which has lovely stuff direct from France. I did see a few Burmese paintings there which were quite nice, but not silk panels. More oil on canvas and watercolour.

Another place you might try is Framing Angie at Holland Village. She has lovely stuff (a mixture of east and west) and her speciality is framing, of course, but she does have some Chinese pieces. Not sure about silk panels though. Go have a look and she might be able to direct you somewhere else then.

Gd Luck.

I wouldnt recommend buying silk panels in SIN coz of the price but you can find them at Tanglin Shopping Center. This is also the place to be if u r into prints and maps (they have many international ones, other than Singapore ones) :

There is one particular shop in this mall that sells only silk stuff (from cushions to curtains to art decor and paintings) but I dont remember the name or the level it is located. This is a fun mall to look for Asian stuff (from all over the region).

Chinatown is better for Chinese items of course (but the street market sells everything from India to Thai or Cambodia stuff.

Good Luck

In KL you can go the Kraft Komplex in Jalan Conlay (close to the Prince Hotel -same street and not far from Pavillion Shops) where you may purchase direct from the artisan if you wish or from their extensive range in the shops themselves at this huge establishment which sells quality handicrafts from all over Malaysia. Highly recommended. I agree with others here - around Tanglin mall in Singapore etc you will aslo find quality product but how much do you want to pay? I think the place in KL is better for one-stop shopping and will be less time consuming.

And to answer your question they do indeed have painted silk patterns - traditional and modern using a batik painting process.
