Have one day in SG on our way to Thailand. Will it be any cheaper to purchase our duty free in SG rather than in Aus? Thanks.
SG duty free prices
it really depends on what you are buying. as an example bottle of alcohol was 25 at perth airport but 45 at changi.to be safe i would just buy at perth airport and pick it up on your return, that way you don%26#39;t have to carry it around when you travel.
SG duty free prices
FYI, Singapore Changi%26#39;s one of the cheapest duty-free in the region. Absolut and Bombay Sapphire - SGD22. Don%26#39;t remember it being cheaper at Kingsford Smith back in Sept 08.
A word of warning, depends on what you mean by Duty Free.
If you are going to Thailand watchout because you can not take duty free stuff with the quantaties that you can bring back to Australia.
Can you not buy duty free before returning to Australia
If you are buying Electrical Camaras and Computers.
Just beware as there are some so called people on Tripadvisor that say certain things, but when the real truth is that you pay for what you get.
Plus you may not get the correct International Warranty that they say you will get.
But you need to clarifie exactly what you are talking about before anyone can comment.
I haope this has given some little helpfull himts

Changi has always been cheaper for duty free items compared to most part of the world including Sydney and I imagine most other Australian airports. This was before the recent devluation of the Australian $ but I imagine it still holds true There are however, only 4 items that carry %26#39;Duty%26#39; in Singapore -Alcohol, Cigarettes, perfumes and Motor veichles. There is no duty on electrical items so buying these in the airport is no cheaper than elsewhere in Singapore (goods sold in the airport are free of GST but you can claim that back anyway on purchases bought downtown when you leave). By the way electrical goods at the airport do come with an a truly international warrantee unlike goods bought in one home country which is normally only valid in the country of purchase. Also all purchase at Changi come with a 30day %26#39;no questions asked%26#39; money back worldwide garantee (thats what it says on the Changi website anyway).
Hi Liccylaccy,
If I didnt remember wrongly in one of the earlier threads on Shopping, some members opined that it is now more expensive to shop for branded goods in Sg due to the devaluation of Aussie Dollars.
And recently my friend also just bought branded stuffs from Sydney stating that it is cheaper there compared to Sg.
Not sure if it really holds true for all products though. But you could check out the earlier threads regarding shopping matters.
Cheers,
Suying
We have about 7 hours in Singapore from 4pm til 11pm between connections. I would be most grateful if you could suggest how best to use this time to see something of the city. Thanks

There is a 2 Hour bus trip that you may be able to access.
Yoyu are not permitted out of the bus.
Check at the airport service desk.
I hope this helps

thanks - I knew they couldn%26#39;t let you escape into the city
Just hi-jacking this thread if you don%26#39;t mind cos I am a bit confused about duty free goods via Singapore and wondered if anyone could clarify for me please...my husband and I will be travelling to London via Singapore (staying in transit hotel overnight) and then four weeks later home (Melbourne)from Paris via two nights in Singapore.
We%26#39;ll be staying in apartments and self catering so I wanted to know whether we are able to buy booze in Singapore to carry with us to London and consume whilst we%26#39;re away? (Then of course we will want to buy more on the way home for consumption here). Is that how it works? I%26#39;m just conscious of the duty free alcohol ';limits'; and hope they apply twice (ie. once on the way there and once on the way back??). Sorry if this sounds really stupid but I just wanted to be sure:) Many thanks.
This may be of some help to you. Alan.
